Site comments, suggestions etc / Shoutbox links help
« on: 28 April, 2017, 09:01:27 PM »
Thought I'd just post a quick how to for posting links in the shoutbox, not least because I sometimes forget myself  ^</
Code: [Select]
To post a link to a web page just paste the address with or without extra text. For example,
For more info go to https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/index
then hit send, It will appear as,
For more info go to [link]

To post an image, the link address must have after the
address. You can use the image button to do this for you. For example,
Look at this picture
It will appear as,
Look at this picture [image]

To embed a youtube video in the shoutbox, just paste the youtube link directly with no other text on the line. If a description is needed, make a separate text post before or after. For example,
https://youtu.be/vuP6KbIsNK4
will show the clickable button

World community grid / Impending overtake by Marist college
« on: 14 April, 2017, 06:27:36 PM »
In case you may have overlooked this, the team will be overtaken by Marist college in ~28 days time and we will then drop down to 5th position overall.  Marist college was one of the first major teams to start on WCG on 17th Nov 2004, about  20 months before we started taking it seriously. While it looks inevitable, I would be reneging my duty as captain not to come up with options.
 • We can convince them to change to another project
  /&\
 • We can recruit the operator of one of the top 500 supercomputers to the team
  ////
 • We merge with another top team
  <..>
 • We ply Poppa with ]/. to come up with the BOINC hack to give us all 5x the credit
Option 4 looks the most likely  {}/

Anyhow, as I've never seen the top teams WCG points trends over the years and to see how we've got to 2nd position (3 times) then fallen back to 4th position, I've made some graphs. Here's the overview. I've also made some more in two yearly segments to show more detail. Will post these shortly in the gallery.

Site comments, suggestions etc / Referrals system
« on: 18 March, 2017, 08:30:15 AM »
Installed a basic referrals system. From the top menu bar select profile>summary and you will find your referral link. If you post this link to a potential member or on a website and they use it to access the site, it sets a cookie and when they register it will automatically update your referral count.  There is the option on the register page to add the referral member manually but the cookie will always override this if set. The referral link lasts for 60 days. Clicking the number of referrals in a members posting profile shows all the referred members by that person. I don't expect there will be much use of this but one can hope. Any thoughts?  /&\

Have redone the post related badges, continuing with the alien/space theme. As usual, it gets a little harder to get the badges after moving to the next level. The number of badges can vary on each level. May the force be with you  ||--

Crunchers café / Post your favourite things of beauty
« on: 13 January, 2017, 06:49:46 PM »
Things that you hold in the highest regard as to being of superb craftsmanship, design icons, objects of timeless beauty. Pretty much anything goes, including paintings, buildings, cars and of course computer stuff. Picture and brief description a must....

Starting with Mk1 E-Type Jag. Enzo Ferrari called it "the most beautiful car ever made" and it performed as good as it looked.
