GPUgrid / Long Linux WU times
« on: 15 June, 2017, 02:32:50 PM »
My WU's are taking longer than expected on Linux Host.
Almost 24 hrs on a 1080 running 2 WU's.

My Win host does 2 WU's in about 10 Hrs.

What am i missing??

CPU utilization is minimal ~10% on linux and ~100% on win.
could this be the issue?

Amicable numbers / AM issue figured out
« on: 08 June, 2017, 05:17:23 PM »
With a little help from the admin i figured out why my times sucked so bad.

My XEON CPU's are too slow to keep the GPU feed with just 1 WU and reserving more CPU's does not help as it appears the GPU app is single threaded.

I am now running 3 WU's on my 1070 and 4WU's on a 1080 and it appears to be working correctly now.
each WU gets its own CPU thread

Crunchers café / 8th BOINC Pentathlon

8th BOINC Pentathlon
from 05/05/2017, 0:00 UTC
to 05/19/2017, 0:00 UTC
5 disciplines
1 winner

This is a really fun event that requires planning and strategy, instead of our normal crunch-fests.

Historically XS does not compete in this event.

If XS would like to compete we need the entire teams help to even have a chance.  1/2 the team will not work.
(this will probably not happen, as most of team XS is not active on the forum)

If XS does not compete, i will be helping SETI.USA. (just like i did last year)
Anybody else is welcome to help out also.

SETI.USA has helped us on a challenge or 2 in the past year.

DC vault / DC-Vault Quest for top 5
« on: 31 March, 2017, 03:13:48 PM »
XS is currently in 8th place in the DC-Vault.
In order to make it to 5th place we need to do a little work.
the projects are listed in the order of importance.

I have started on TN-Grid and OGR-28.  I am also planning on trying some GIMPS again soon.

Linux / The little Pi that could
« on: 20 January, 2017, 05:00:13 PM »
i recently got an OrangePi Plus 2E because it has 2GB RAM and i wanted to run alot of goofyx instances on it.
I was hoping for 250 based on my experiences with an RPI.

After some messing around i was able to get 600 instances running 2,400 WU on the OPi. :)
The best i can figure, the OS used for Opi "Armbian" is way better with its RAM usage than rasbipan.

600 instances is only using about 500mb RAM on the Opi while 100 instances on the RPi used 1GB.
I was going to try to use all the RAM, but 600 instances is stressing the CPU's pretty good and it is not very responsive as of now.

Not sure here, but i could have the highest PPD pi on BOINC.
i should get 500,000 ppd from it running 600 instances of goofyx.  /^\

based on a ppd of 500K and a power draw of 5W, 100K per W is very impressive. \^/

I just recently discovered the RetroPie and am really enjoying it.

I have been playing Mario 1, Mario 3, 1943, Contra and Duck Tails from the NES
NBA jam on the SNES
Starfox and mario on the N64.

all the software is Free and there are over 100,000 games available from the commador64 all the way to the PlayStation1/N64.

all you need is an RPI and some controllers.

Any body else have a RetroPie?
What games you playing?

Crunchers café / Project LED
« on: 08 January, 2017, 11:09:38 PM »
i decided it was time to change out most of the lights in my house to LED's.

I have 53 recessed lights each had a 65W bulb in it.
All were replaced with 10W LED's.

i am hoping to see a decent reduction in my electricity bill. [&&]

This is the referb one from newegg.

it is working and appeared to be new except for some vary faint scratches on the pci-e pins.
my guess it is was referbed for a new HSF as there is not 1 spec of dust.

came with full retail package, serial #'s stickers and warranty stickers. /^/ /^/

get your crunches going, XS needs more Vault points. /!\

the seller has good reviews on ebay and offers decent returns.

Return for refund within: 30 days
Return for replacement within: 60 days

no clue about MSI warranty as it is a referb.

i have ordered one.
i will immediately register it with MSI and see what they say about the warranty.

hard to beat $330 for a GTX 1070 OC 8GB edition

I took the WCG image out of my sig because of it.

I still see it on bluestang's and probably a few others.
